“班主任”不是class director！地道英语怎么说？

一、班主任

班级是class，主任是director，“班主任”不是classdirector！

一般只有在中小学才有“班主任”这一称呼，并且在英文里没有“班主任”这个词对应的称呼，此时只能采用意译。

（一）、a teacher in chargeof a class

班主任是负责一个班级的老师，所以，班主任可以翻译为：a teacher in charge of a class，这也是小V认为地最准确的翻译。

Mini V’s girlfriend is the teacher incharge of the class.

小V的女朋友是这班的班主任。

（二）、head teacher

班主任是一个班的老大，所以“班主任”又可以翻译成：the head-teacher of the class。因为这个词条太长了，所以我们把它缩写成head teacher。

特别需要注意的是，head teacher 在英国是中小学的校长的意思，所以为了把“班主任”和“校长”区分开来，建议写成class head teacher。

那个站在远处的年轻女士是小V（VOA英语城）的班主任。

（三）、class adviser

班主任一般会给这个班的同学们指点迷津，给出建设性的建议等。同学们有什么困难也可以向班主任诉说，所以，班主任也一个类似于顾问的角色。所以，班主任还可以翻译成：a class adviser。

The boy told Mini V he was afraid of his classadviser.

这个小男孩跟小V说他害怕他的班主任。

（四）、form teacher

班主任在英式英语里，还有一个表达，那就是formteacher（字面意思是形式老师）。Form teacher一般专职的，是不授课的，但我们的班主任一般是要教语文，数学等科目的。

Mini V heard on the grapevine that the newform teacher was very good at quieting the kids.

小V（VOA英语城）听小道消息说这位新来的班主任很有办法上孩子们安静下来。

on the grapevine 指通过“非正式渠道得到的，小道的”意思。

小V总结：“班主任”有四种翻译可供参考：1. a teacher in charge of a class，2. head teacher（thehead-teacher of the class），3. class adviser，4. form teacher。

二、代课老师

代是generation，课是class，老师是teacher，“代课老师”不是generation class teacher！

代替是replace，课是class，老师是teacher，“代课老师”不是replace class teacher！

代课老师可以翻译为：substituteteacher，英文缩写：SUB。

replace是动词，指物时有新的换旧的，坏的换成好的，升级这样的意思，指人时多指取代某一位置以作为替代者或继承者。replace的名词是replacement，译为替换物。substitute的意思是“代替”且一般不比原物好。

Mini V worked as a substitute teacher inshort-term jobs in various schools.

小V我曾在不同学校做短期代课老师。

三、任课老师、班级老师

任课老师就是给学生们上课的老师，我们可以用英语直接说teacher，在英国还可以用classteacher来表示。
